Using Oracle’s OHIP To Speed Up Integrations

Duetto was proud to play a part in Oracle Hospitality’s Innovation Week, which ran from March 22-25.

David Gerrard, our Director of Data Quality & Integrations, joined in the debate in a live panel discussion on March 23. Four Oracle tech partners came together to talk about how they are leveraging the Oracle Hospitality Integration Platform (OHIP) and using Opera Cloud REST APIs to build integrations addressing the needs of hoteliers today.

Co-hosted by Mike Provost, Senior Manager, Hotel Solutions Management, Product Strategy, Oracle Hospitality and Fabricio Titiro, Principal Product Manager, Product Strategy, Oracle Hospitality, the panel discussion included:

  • David Gerrard, Director, Data Quality & Integrations, Duetto
  • Piyush Aggarwal, Product Manager, Knowcross
  • Guy Gaash, Vice President, Business Development & Strategic Accounts, Fornova
  • Prince Gehlawat, Vice President, Engineering, WooHoo

OHIP delivers a self-service model including more than 3,000 hospitality API capabilities. Each one of the tech providers on the panel has been an early adopter of OHIP. And they explained the benefits of being part of this platform.

“Oracle is our largest technology partner by number of hotels, and Duetto always wants to push the envelope as much as possible.  We want to be the flagship Revenue Strategy Platform of OHIP.  OHIP is the future of Oracle, and so OHIP is the future of Duetto’s partnership with Oracle,” said David Gerrard from Duetto.

“Our experience has been very positive, you have built an excellent integration platform here.  When Fabricio sent me the documentation of how to connect to a new client via OHIP, I told him “I think you forgot to send me the other 20 pages!” But it really is that seamless.  The Developer Portal is great, very well laid out.”

Prince Gehlawat from WooHoo explained how, traditionally, the hotel industry has been reluctant to move to cloud or hybrid solutions, as an industry. “We saw this as a roadblock to an AI solution. When we saw Oracle, an industry leader, taking the effort to create a next gen integration platform we couldn’t resist. The experience has been very smooth and the response structure is very good for us,” he remarked.

Guy Gaash of Fornova explained how, before OHIP, getting data could be a challenge. “Getting the data of one chain or one website is much easier. Now we get all the data we need for our systems and solutions. For the experience – the team is very happy, there is great communication, and response time is super. Thanks for being that responsive!”

OHIP offers over 3,000 open-sourced REST APIs covering the whole of the Opera Property Management System. In its latest development, Oracle is offering OHIP via a Postman Universal Permissive License, making its APIs available via GitHub.

This opens the playing field for further innovation in the hotel technology sphere for established players and new tech solutions alike, as David Gerrard explained: “There’s no point in keeping data close to the chest. The more open you are with APIs and data the more likely partners will want to work with you. This UPL is great for established players like Duetto and new players alike as it will allow them to make their move immediately. And it’s available on GitHub. Our dev team is really excited to get their hands on those APIs in that format. It’s a wonderful move on Oracle’s part.”

Piyush Aggarwal of Knowcross agreed: “This is definitely going to help us or any other integration partner be able to access these APIs in a more simple manner and have a direct impact on development time. Everything is now available via GitHub and anyone in my engineering team can start downloading. This will help us build in a fast-paced manner.”

Concluding the panel discussion, Mike Provost of Oracle commented: “We are excited to publish under this UPL. We believe this will give others the ability to adopt these APIs, use them, contribute to them and move the needle for the industry.”
