Unicorn of the Month: Cristian Queirolo

Cristian Queirolo, Member of Technical Staff – Integrations, is our Unicorn of the Month for November.

Based in Argentina, and working as part of our Buenos Aires tech team, Cristian has only been with us for seven months but is already making a big impression with his work.

He was awarded Unicorn of the Month for his great teamwork, his ability to explain technical matters in a simple way, and for already having a big impact on our back-end code.

Qualified in Electronics Engineering, with a passion for code and programming, Cristian joined us in March and is already onboarding new team members.

Speaking about the recognition, he said: “It’s the first time something like this happens to me because I don’t have much work experience. It was a shock, and I was happy. I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t think I was making such an impact. it's awesome!”

What was it that attracted you to Duetto?

At first, it was just another job interview for me. But as the interview process advanced, I just knew I wanted to work here, at Duetto. I just liked the people; they were super nice and treated Duetto as their home.

Tell us what your job entails?

I work in integrations, so my job is to ensure our tech partners, such as Mews and Oracle, can communicate efficiently with Duetto back and forth.

I am application-agnostic, so I get to work across the whole Duetto platform, which is great. I’m also learning best coding practices from my peers.

What is your average day like?

To me, each day is a challenge. My duties vary from adding new functionalities to improving those already in existence so that everything runs smoothly. To do that, a lot of teamwork is involved, because more brains mean better code!

And recently I got to help onboard a new colleague. It was great! When Laura asked me I said, ‘Let’s go with it’. It was fun; I got to meet the new teammate and it was a good experience.

What do you most love about your job?

I love that with each day that passes, I learn something new, whether that’s about hospitality or the technology, and everything in between.

I come from a small tourism city – when I started learning all the huge systems that operate behind the scenes in hotels it was surprising and exciting to see how big this is.

The best day you’ve ever had working at Duetto?

I remember the first time a feature I worked on got released to production, I was so happy! It was a back-end button, which may seem small, but to me it was huge and I got to present it to the team as part of our Spring Demo.

Everyone was super nice and congratulated me. In Duetto, it feels like everything you do makes a positive impact and gets the recognition it deserves.

What piece of advice would you give to someone looking at a career in hotel tech right now?

I don't have any advice, but perhaps I can share my experience.

I never worked in hotel tech before, and I didn't join Duetto because of it. It's awesome to learn how complex this business is. In my home city, the hotels are small, and I used to think that all hotels managed their guests and rooms with just a couple of Excel sheets. How wrong I was! Hotel technology is awesome and the people that work here are awesome as well. I think the best time to join this business is right now, no matter when you read this!
