Our Unicorn of the Month for October is Travis Weber, Regional Director of Sales. Travis has been with Duetto for a year and a half and has been a big asset to the team ever since. He was awarded Unicorn of the Month for being a real team player and always ready to lend a hand.
Announcing Travis as the Unicorn of the Month at our October Town Hall, Duetto’s Sandeep Thiara, Director of People Operations, said: “Hospitality is in Travis’ DNA. Duettos voted for Travis for many reasons, including because he helps them better understand best practices with full cycle sales and because he lives and breathes hospitality. It’s amazing to watch him engage with prospects and customers alike, and he is a ‘go-to person’ for any questions. He is personable and great at his job.”
Commenting on his award, Travis said: “I was completely shocked and humbled when I heard I was being awarded Unicorn of the Month. My work philosophy is to simply try and do the best I can and maintain persistence in the task at hand. It's a true honor to know my peers recognize this in me and that I can support them when they have questions or needs.”
We caught up with Travis to find out more about his role at Duetto, what he loves about it and what the future holds for him.
What first attracted you to the company?
The tight-knit company culture and access to all departments were a big draw for me, along with the ability to help hoteliers bring their revenue management into the modern era with a best-in-class solution.
Did we live up to your expectations? Why?
Yes, absolutely. I had heard how great the Duetto culture was but being able to live it day in and day out has been amazing. The access that is provided to all departments to collaborate and learn from one another, the level of transparency across the organization, the commitment to competition and success, and the importance of letting everyone be heard, are just a few of my expectations that have been exceeded.
What does an average day at Duetto look like for you? Is there such a thing?
An average day doesn't exist, which is what makes things so exciting. I have down days at home where I am turning and burning with emails and phone calls to prospective partners to try and get in the door, then at other times my week is filled with demos or commercial contracting calls. Then you can mix in all the engaging internal calls and semi-frequent travel and there is rarely a dull day.
What do you love most about your job?
I am constantly learning and being challenged. Tech is evolving at a rapid pace and just learning how to articulate those changes to a hotel prospect or partner correctly means doing my homework. I love that I work alongside some of the sharpest people I have ever met and I get to learn from them every day and share that with the hospitality industry.
What professional goals do you still want to smash?
It's a mission of mine to help bring destination markets - specifically Ski and National Park destinations - up to speed on the advantages of today’s technology. Many of these areas represent a travel industry sector where processes seem to be dated with an inability to adopt change. In many areas this has stifled economic growth, restricting well-paying jobs, and drawing on a smaller and smaller talent pool. I firmly believe that adopting technologies will help sustain these beautiful places while promoting a healthy work/life balance for the people that call these communities home.
